I just worked in Japan for 3 months, and always see a line outside this restraurant esp. during lunch time. I tried today for the pork katsu layered with onion. The taste was perfect! The batter so crispy, the meat was juicy, and the soup was amazing. I felt this dish was so authentic and so far this is one of the best meal i had in japan. The aunty who serve the guess was very patient communicating with me who could not talk japaneese and apparently she could speak basic english. Highly recommended if you visiting Shinsabaishi.

Small little place for a hearty set of tonkatsu with rice and side dishes. The grandma there was very helpful with explaining the menu to us. There are different cuts of pork and we ordered a fatty one and a “normal” cut. The fatty one is amazing, very juicy and melts in your mouth. There’s a sign saying “don’t use your phones while eating”, which I think is fair enough. Grandpa is cooking at the back in the kitchen. Can’t beat an old couple duo! We will be back!
