i stopped by twice for lunch with my girlfriend as we stayed at the hotel next door and was amazed at how cozy the atmosphere was and how home cooked the meals felt. my girlfriend loves saba shioyaki and claims this is the best she had during our time in japan. it was perfectly grilled, not dry, and super tender. my katsu was also amazing, super crispy and juicy. you can even smell/hear the chef deep frying the katsu fresh for every order. it smelled good from across the room before my dish was even served to me it was a great start to our days, we'd love to go back if we ever found ourselves in the area again on our next trip!

I've eaten a lot of tonkatsu in Japan. The best tend to have the right amount of crunch, the right amount of juice, and a great flavor. I am happy to report, Maruichi's tonkatsu have all three points, nearly to perfection. For English speakers, there is a limited English menu. The hostess will seat you and give you the limited menu printed out, point at what you want and you're ready to feast. If you can read/speak Japanese, there are more options available but the tonkatsu for me was the best option and it's available to everyone (they will also serve the other items if you can figure them out, of course; it's not like they won't make them for you if you aren't Japanese). Sadly, the hostess struggled with my Japanese but I had a great meal regardless.

JR Ueno Station is a 1-minute walk from Iriya Exit. This is a pork cutlet restaurant located on Nikko Kaido. On my way home from a short day out, I stopped by for lunch. Please get a bottle of beer first and order the top loin cutlet separately. Thanks to the hot and humid weather, the taste of beer permeates through your body. Now, a big moist fried loin cutlet. The thickly sliced ​​meat comes out very soft. Enough to eat. Even without sauce, salt, or anything else, the taste is excellent. If you make it a set meal, you can be sure that your meal will go well. In any case, it feels very good. Just like that, I was able to pay off the bill without any problems. It's a wonderful shop that we recommend stopping by because it's a complete feast.
