Omihachiman, Shiga, Japan｜Minna-no-ie

There aren't many dinner options in this part of Omihachiman, but this place makes up for it! Used the chat feature in Google maps to make a rez and also relied on Google translate to tell me what was on the menu (uploading menu so you can do the same in advance). Gets a bit smokey when the kitchen is busy, but overall a great experience.

If you're staying in the area (or even if you're just passing by), DO NOT MISS MINNA-NO-IE! We came here on a recommendation from our AirBnB host and are so glad we did! It's a restaurant in a beautiful traditional Japanese house. There's plenty of room, so we didn't need to book, and the staff were more than accommodating despite our limited Japanese ability. We ordered a selection of dishes and every single one was delicious. The service was exceptional and the staff couldn't have been friendlier or more attentive. It's one of the best dining experiences I've had in Japan and we will definitely make the trip to come back again.

It really is an excellent place. Nice atmosphere, open kitchen, friendly chef and polite, efficient courteous staff. A good range of vegetables and meat. My partner is vegetarian and she was thoroughly satisfied. Will come again when I'm next at the Biwako Biennale.
