Hanno, Saitama, Japan｜Takemura

Had a wonderful lunch with 3 compatriots after hiking Mt. Tenran and walking the river. Fantastic food, great service with rather large portions for the price. We got there @ 1125 and was 2nd in line. Quick service but place constantly turned over as people waited in line. Proprietress was very kind and patient, explaining menu to "dumb" Americans.

This is the store where Emperor Showa stopped by during the Saitama National Athletic Meet in 1964. Both the tanuki soba with strong dashi soup and the tempura bowl with thick sauce are both delicious and filling. Homemade rice bran pickles are also delicious! These days, a set like this (tendon and soba set) costs 950 yen, which is amazing. It takes a little time when it's busy, but it's worth the wait.

09/23 There were a few customers who came to the store around 13:00 on weekdays. The price of the set menu was so low that I was worried. And you could get a large serving of soba for 200 yen. The soup tastes good and the portions are generous, so it's definitely a 5 star dish. This is a must visit again. There are about 2 parking spaces in front of the store. There is also one in a remote location.
