Hakone, Kanagawa, Japan｜Tamura Ginkatsu-tei

We had lunch - was great - just two options both feature tofu katsu (breaded) served hot in a sauce with sautéed onions. True comfort food but not so heavy. We shared the options with all the sides and was plenty. They could not be nicer. Place was comfy and homey.

I don't know why this place is only rated a 4.0. The tonkatsu here easily matches up well with Katsukura in Shinjuku and other tonkatsu places in Tokyo. The pork cutlet pieces are distinctly tender with crispy light batter coating a layer of juicy fat under which resides tender yet leaner meat. Easily a 4.5 for me.

Can provide English service and menu. The Hakone local beer was a must-try. Compare to the deep fried pork cutlet set, the signature tofu set was more unique and tasty.
