More Comments at Google MapThis place serves one of the best Tonkatsu in Osaka! I And I certainly had my best ever here. First of all, they serve an artisan pork Ishigami Kiwami which supposedly takes 3 years to breed. They also use a low temperature method to fry the pork. All these attention to details mean the chef and team take their time to bring your meal to you. And patience did reward us to a very good meal. I had the Half set which has both loin and fillet. I preferred the loin which is meatier, and OMG so juicy and tender. My mouth was bursting with umami and sweet flavor of the meat juices in most amazing way. I only needed to add salt to accentuate the flavor. My husband had the Jorousu set which I found to be abit more fatty but rounded umami flavor. It went very well with the house made Tonkatsu sauce or surprisingly the wasabi. The interior of the restaurant has the modern zen vibe. It was calming, homely with the wonderful aroma of a fantastic meal to come. Thank you chef and team for such a wonderful meal. Will be there 😊.
TL;DR Best tonkatsu I've ever had. And best meal we've had in Osaka. My wife and i were flying off in the evening so wanted a nice lunch before checking out of our hotel. This place only had a Japanese name but a top tasting and was just a few minutes walk away. Also it opened at 11am so good perfect timing for us. We arrived score 10:55 and there was already a party ahead of us. But we got seated promptly at 11am. They have an English menu with a good description of the tonkatsu. See the pictures. I ordered the Jourousu and my wife got the Half (see the menu pictures). There's a choice of cabbage or lettuce and we got the former. The sauces on the table. The usual tonkatsu sauce, a Japanese sauce, and a carrot dressing for the salad. They served the side dishes first. Very nice rice with some ground pork, miso soup with lots of stuff inside, a big grape as dessert and a plate for eating with mustard, wasabi and sea salt. The meat is served directly from the deep fryer so it's hot and juice when it arrives. The first mouthful gets the pork juices, together with the fat and I immediately had some rice to provide a base. That was an amazing first bite. My wife and I did a bit of sharing so I can say her loin piece is equally juicy and just a bit less fat. The fillet had much less fat and isn't as juicy or tender. The tonkatsu pieces are huge. Mine was 220g and my wife's combined was 190g. That's a lot of meat. My wife didn't really touch her rice so no problem finishing. I like my tonkatsu with rice (helps to cut them fat) so I filled up fast and would have been happy without the last two pieces of pork. Overall, best tonkatsu we've ever had and best meal in Osaka. We're definitely coming back the next time we're in the area.
This is the ultimate hidden find and a must go in Osaka. Period. Located in a quiet neighbourhood just one stop away from Osaka-Umeda station, this Tonkatsu restaurant boasts a wonderful ambience, excellent service and divine quality food. Sitting at the counter may be the best option, as you will be able to observe the whole food making process and how much attention the chef pays in order to deliver exceptional quality food. The Loin Cut (3,200 yen for 180g with set) was very tender, juicy and flavourful on its own. This is a fatty cut, and it is best paired with wasabi or the tangy savoury tonkatsu sauce in my opinion. The Fillet Cut (2,100 yen for 150g with set) was equally as good. Although it's less fatty, it's still very tender and in fact much meatier. Pairing this with salt is enough. Both cuts have a satisfyingly light but crispy batter which gives a good mouth feel. The set comes with a very comforting pork broth soup, rice and cabbage. The soup contains loads of vegetables and meat ingredients! Very hearty indeed! All sides in the set can be refilled once. The set also surprisingly comes with tea and dessert, which was much needed for. The ginger ice cream with biscuit was surprisingly amazing, as it was so refreshing and cuts through all fatty flavours. Having it with tea is such an apt finisher for this meal. Definitely a hidden find and more people should know about this! A must try when you're here in Osaka. I'm definitely coming back!
