Toshima City, Tokyo, Japan｜CoCo Ichibanya

Finally tried a CoCo Ichibanya before leaving! I had heard they have a vegan menu / vegan choices, but never saw it outside of the store besides a few options with vegetables. Let me tell you how the system works, at least in this little cozy restaurant right in front of the Sakura Tram stop near Sunshine City. You get to sit down and choose from the menu your language, then you can choose the type of curry, then choose the toppings. If you make a mistake you can go back by selecting “change” before the full order is made. The actual vegan curry with vegetable sauce is under the “Low-Carb curry” options from my understanding, as visible in the image. There a disclaimer mentions there aren’t animal derived products, and the options are clearly aimed toward different diets (you can also choose an allergen-free curry, which I found a nice touch to be inclusive). I went overboard and ordered the vegetable curry along toppings of eggplant, mushroom and soy burger. The whole of it came with a decently sized portion at 1465 yen. It was nice, warm and tasty, and to my surprise the toppings I chose were all good with the curry selected. You then pay at the end, IC Cards are accepted. There are also manga present in this particular one, although I’m not sure if it’s possible to read them. Overall a very inclusive store with swift and kind staff, absolutely recommended to try if you want a standardized but still good quality curry and rice (and vegan too!)
