Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan｜Hakatatenpura Takao (JOINUS Yokohama)

I last visited this tempura restaurant in 2016 and the food and service has left a lasting impression to 2022. Visited last night and the queue was two rows deep. Will try again for lunch today before I have to start heading out of Japan...nooooo! Update: They open at 11:00, I'm here at 11:02 and the restaurant is full and a four others ahead of me in the queue...quickly growing to 12 in-line. 11:38, I'm in. Ordered the Takao successful special. Eight pieces with tempura sweet red bean as dessert. If you're adverse to sugar, skip but it's GOOD. What I like is they serve three to four pieces and quite closely match you eating "speed" and you have the next few pieces served, crunchy and hot. Very attentive staff, noticed we had switched our selection, indication by coloured tags they'd placed on the table and readily refilled the pickled vegetable condiment. The pickled mentaiko (Pollack roe) is also available for refills but that wasn't to my liking, the mentaiko. Did not like it in 2016, still don't like it in 2022.

I dont know about you guys but this Tempura restaurant makes the tastiest and freshest tempura I have ever eaten in Japan, in my opinion. Will definitely come back. ありがとうございました

Great place, good cost performance, cheap and delicious. Has a lineup most days and worth it! Set tempura is nice and can order more. Comes with cod roe and pickles as service. Recommend!
