Chichibu, Saitama, Japan｜Maruta

The best ever soba I have in Japan. The shop owner gives us free Japanese okashi to try when she gets to know we are foreign tourists. There are a few free parking lots next to the shop.

I went to Chichibu in December for a night festival. Reached there earlier and chance upon this rare gem (and underrated) soba restaurant. The restaurant is housed in a traditional Japanese building. Simple set up and we were having our lunch at a tatami room. A friendly old lady was serving us. Though can't understand the Japanese menu, we managed to order by looking around what other people order and with the help from the old lady. I enjoyed visiting this kind of small establish restaurant, away from main tourist area. You can feel the owner take pride in their food and prepare the best for you using the fresh and simple ingredients. You will feel 幸せ with every bite 😊
