Hakone, Kanagawa, Japan｜Daimasa Honten

Stumbled upon this restaurant after walking around the area and walked in starving. It's a small and quaint looking restaurant that seems to be family owned. The ladies were all sweet and nice to us foreigners. Since we barely spoke any Japanese, one lady was able to speak to us in English as best as she can and recommended some suggestions on the menu. I forgot what I ordered but my mom ordered their Tempura Udon and I wanted sashimi. She really loved the shrimp and said It tasted fresh. After we ate, one of the ladies who happened to be the owner talked to us for a bit and shared that the shrimp my mom really enjoyed was bought at the market that morning at 4am! Definitely too early for me to go shopping for food but I guess that's what needs to be done for this restaurant to have fresh seafood. She even gave us directions on how to take the bus to the next area of our trip. Overall, a great place to eat and wind down while eating seafood.

Had one of the best meals here during my stay in Japan. If you need to eat while visiting various places in Hakone, save it for this place. Those at the cable station and cruise terminals are overrated. The sashimi is very fresh and tasty. Service is also warm and prompt. It's only a 6 min walk from hakonemachi-ko. Will definitely support if I go again!

A lovely mom-and-pop seafood restaurant in Motomachi; a great option for lunch. All the set plates look solid. I definitely recommend getting the deep fried smelt; the fish comes out of Lake Ashi itself and it makes for a great side plate. Personally, I really enjoyed the ryudon, which is a rice bowl that comes with eel, salmon roe and tuna slices on top. Triple play!
