Matsumoto, Nagano, Japan｜三引屋MITSUBIKIYA

We stayed during our honeymoon and really enjoyed our experience. The room was quaint, simple, and comfortable (although, if you’re a tall guy, watch your head). The staff were hospitable and helpful. And the dinner experience was incredible- a true highlight. The hotel is also conveniently located to visit the city and surrounding area.

This is a fantastic very small hotel with 5 rooms, Japanese style ryokan with shared shower area. Rooms have private toilets and tatami matt areas for sleeping, adorable old home that has been lovingly updated. Breakfast and dinner are available and delicious, owner is very attentive and friendly and uses some English and his phone for translations and we had no trouble understanding each other. Really great location within short walk to everything in town. 5 minutes to castle, 3 minutes to dozens of restaurants and coffee, 8 minutes to the Yoyoi museum. Restaurant is delightful, mix of fish and veggies and soba set menus, prices very very reasonable. This is a great great little hotel—recently opened in 2023 which is why they have relatively few reviews. We found them on a booking website that had great reviews and we couldn’t agree more—great hotel!

I didn't stay in the accommodation but had the omakase dinner one night. The master clearly knows how to prepare a delicious and high quality meal and the food was very fresh and beautifully presented. We had several courses of traditional Japanese food prepared in different ways- agemono, nimono, local sashimi, and so on, finishing with soba with fresh wasabi. The whole building is very beautiful and the owner clearly takes great care of the place. Great traditional old Japanese-style building. Definitely recommend!
