Karuizawa, Nagano, Japan｜Osakana Dining Kiraku [Japanese sake and appetizer restaurant]

My wife and I are visiting from Colorado, USA and we had our wedding in Tokyo yesterday! We came out to Karuizawa because it was recommended by my father! The second we stepped foot in this city, we fell in love. We walked around the town and we found this izakaya near where we are staying and I am extremely happy we stopped in! The service is incredible here, great selection with sake, and the food is outstanding! Our server and the chef were extremely friendly and professionals at their jobs! I worked at restaurants for 12 years back in the states so I think that means something. I do speak Japanese but I’m definitely not great at it and they brought me a tablet with the menu in English so I could understand better! If you’re in town, please take time to give this place a visit!

Really enjoyed the food here, came here from the next station as my friend recommended this izakaya And it did not disappoint, I went for the omakase set and it was very good especially the fish and tempura They also have some premium sake here, I got to try Juyondai which outside of Japan is very hard to find and very expensive, really recommend trying this sake , as it’s subtly sweet and very smooth, one of the best I’ve tried

Was lucky to be able to get a dinner reservation made by our hotel on a Saturday night. They don’t have any English menus so it’s best to have a look at the photos of what others have ordered and show it to them. The waiter can speak a little English and was really helpful. We really loved the fried baby shrimp - unlike some other places that over fry it, theirs was done really nicely. The grilled fish and sashimi was also excellent! So glad we had a meal here
