Hachioji, Tokyo, Japan｜Gonsuke

Review from May 2023. We took a pre-booked ride from Takaosanguchi train station to "Gonsuke"(ごん助) to have our lunch. It's Japanese charcoal grill where we cook the food on a grill or tilt a skewer at the grill. This place is recommended by my Tokyo friend. There were various sets to choose from. The set we had consists of: Chicken, fish, mochi, vegetables, rice and soba. There are beef and pork sets but we didn't go for those since it's actually quite a lot. We chose to do the grilling and eat at a little private cottage like a mini private room instead of the main hall, what a wonderful experience! Everything tasted great of course. Totally recommended!~ Price for the set was 4700yen per person. Our set menu list of food: 3 seasonal small bowls of appetizers - Miso glazed konjac balls - Chicken thighs - Chicken wings - Ayu (sweetfish) - Scallop in shell - Deep fried fishcake - Shiitake mushrooms - Leeks - Mochi - Chilled soba with grated yam OR grated yam with rice - Dessert of the day

A wonderful authentic Japanese restaurant! Great for bringing visitors new to Japan to enjoy the beautiful culture and food. They a very accommodating for big groups.

Great place for Irori Japanese cuisine. Same menus and prices for lunch and dinner, worth going at night. Prices are reasonable for dinner under 199 usd per person, individual dining room provided. There is also a Japanese pond on the back.
