Izu, Shizuoka, Japan｜Amago-jaya (river fish specialty restaurant)

A little restaurant run by 2 super friendly efficient and welcoming hosts! We lucked out with it being open for dinner on a Tuesday evening when we arrived at our hotel(most places were closed for dinner). We had hired a car and it was easy to locate. The food was simple but so tasty. We loved the addition of wasabi to everything in a region that specialises in this produce. How can do a noodles with soya sauce and a touch of wasabi taste so delicious. The tempura fish and vegetables crispy and flavourful. My teenagers relished their bento boxes too(fish and rice with tempura). Needless to say we’ll be back!

This place was one of the few places open on a Tuesday. I'm so thankful I chose this place. The tempura was lovely and plentiful! I left there feeling full and happy! It's a little pricey but relatively you get a fair portion so it's worth the cost. They serve hot green tea with refills as service too! It's not a place to linger though. They have tables and counter seats. Ideal for small groups, singles and couples.

The fresh water fish, Amago donburi is sooo good! We tried the grilled one as well. Everything was amazing. Will try the fish burger next time.
