Mihara, Hiroshima, Japan｜Rokumonsen

Little traditional izakaya with lots of delicious local food. Mihara is famous for tako (octopus) and they offer many octopus dishes, but their menu is huge and has dozens of other options. The staff doesn't speak English but they're extremely friendly and try their best to make conversation. We live near Tokyo and were absolutely shocked for how low the prices were.

I had the famous "raw octopus sashimi". We also had a lot of local Japanese sake, which was very delicious. This is a highly recommended restaurant and the staff are very friendly.

This is a shop that you must stop by when you come to Mihara. The menu unique to Rokumonsen is appealing. In addition, the menu includes Otome Sour and Mihara Highball, which is the best menu for me. It's tough not being able to smoke, but in these days of the coronavirus pandemic, I think we have no choice but to close our eyes. There are plenty of options to choose from, such as seared Shinmei chicken and Mihara octopus sashimi, and the restaurant also has an AM radio playing, which creates a great atmosphere. If you come in after the store opens, you can enjoy a drink while listening to the evening radio program, the Nippon Cultural Broadcasting News Parade. It's a store you'll want to come back to again and again. I will definitely visit again when I go to Mihara.
