Joetsu, Niigata, Japan｜Hikozaemon

Really enjoyed this place for great local izakaya. The single chef cooking for the whole izakaya was impressive and the food was delicious. Potato salad was warm, tomatoes were sweet, sashimi fresh, salmon chazuke tea rice was good, and butter clams also good. The grilled fish had more bones than I prefer but still tasted good. Beef egg donburi reminded me of home cooking. Overall food was very good. Only downside was when the parties next to us started smoking, after which we rushed to finish up the rest of our food so we didn't have to breathe second-hand smoke.

We have a standard menu and today's recommended menu. There is a wide selection of sake types from both the city and the prefecture. We also had beer, shochu, sour and cocktails🙋
