Kyoto, Japan｜Kyo no Ajitokoro Uemura

This is a small eatery with limited seats, probably about 12 seats in a small room. No English menu or signboard so we almost miss it. Luckily it was not crowded when we reached about 12.30pm. They had few tempura sets, so we ordered set with 2090yen and 1760yen. A cup of tea was served and food came shortly, overall taste is good ... tempura came without the usual dashi, but with some salt.

Chance upon this place whilst visiting Kiyomizu Dera Temple and this is a hidden jem. Went around 12pm and there were empty seats, the restaurant fits 14 people max and has 1 waiter and 2 chefs in the kitchen. We ordered the daily rice special and it didn’t disappoint. The tempura were nice and light with no oil taste (old oil smell). The mushroom rice served was divine, it had so much umami flavour without being overpowering. The side dishes were equally great, it’s a happy balanced meal. Highly recommend to anyone visiting the temple.

We had lunch and ordered eel rice and tempura don. Both were flavorful. Rice was soft and eel was tender.
