Great place to sit and have Japanese sweets and tea. Also some savour bowls if you're hungry. Beautiful outdoor garden to look at or an indoor one. Good selection of mochi, chestnut, bean and persimmon sweets. Also take aways. Try a few different types.

Nakatsugawa Kawakamiya Saryo Kurinoya It's located along National Route 19, so it's easy to stop by, but be careful as it gets very crowded in the fall. There is a parking lot in front of the store as well as in the back. I had chestnut rice rice and chestnut flour mochi. Kuri Okowa has a chewy chestnut flavor and elegant seasoning. I was told that the quantity of chestnut flour mochi was limited, but there seemed to be plenty of it (takeaway was sold out). There are many famous chestnut confectionery shops in the Tono region, so it's a good idea to go on a chestnut tour.
