Aizuwakamatsu, Fukushima, Japan｜喜平そば屋

A great Izakaya shop with delicious chewy soba. The shop owners are very friendly to new customers. The Japanese customers were happily chatting with them too. Friendly atmosphere but not too noisy as it is a small shop. One thing to note for non-Japanese, everyone have to take off their shoes and put them on the shoes rack at the entrance before stepping inside. Also, most of their dining tables (except bar table) are traditional Japanese style where there is nowhere to put your feet. If you cannot sit like this for the meal, don’t go there. I highly recommend their soba (十割そば) and marinaded fish (にしんの山椒漬). By the way, you can eat the whole piece of fish including the bones. 👍🏻 The shop owners were very considerate. As we only ordered one for each kind of food, they were kind enough to bring us two small bowls and two soba dipping sauce. When we finished the cold soba, they brought us a pot of hot soup, to be added to our soba dipping sauce to make good soup. It was yummy and warming.

The very best soba experience in my life! The agedashi tofu was also 10/10 delicious. The atmosphere of the restaurant, music, and speed of service were great. The couple who own the shop are super cute and friendly.
