Iwaki, Fukushima, Japan｜九州魂いわき

As a foreigner in Iwaki for work I really like this place. A lot of the izakayas aren't that inviting to non Japanese but I feel welcome here. I've eaten a lot of the menu and it's got some real gems on it that I haven't eaten elsewhere and is generally very good. Hearty as well if you're hungry. Maybe a little expensive by Iwaki standards but still very good value by UK standards and you do get what you pay for to an extent, and it's not like its a tourist trap, it is Iwaki after all! I didn't make a reservation for Saturday, but since it was early, I called and they said there were seats available, so I was able to get in ♬ Perhaps because of its popularity, an hour later there was a sign posted outside the restaurant saying it was full. The food was served smoothly, the atmosphere was nice, and I had a wonderful time ♡ All the dishes were delicious, I forgot to take pictures lol The pork bone soy sauce flavor of the motsu nabe was delicious! It was great that you could choose from a variety of dishes, from rice porridge to champon!

The motsu nabe was the best. I made it flavored with soy sauce. The giblets are simmering and the cabbage is crunchy. Topped with mentaiko. I can't get enough of it. It was crowded. Please make a reservation.
