While waiting for my flight at New Chitose Airport, I bought some rice balls at Salmon Marugame. Salmon Marugame is a salmon specialty restaurant in Hokkaido, and the New Chitose Airport store is located on the 2nd floor of the domestic terminal building. Rice balls made with wild salmon from Hokkaido are sold here. The rice balls are handmade after you order, so you can enjoy them freshly made. However, depending on the time in the afternoon, the food may be sold out or the rice may be being cooked, so you may need some luck. However, you can make reservations, so if you are sure you want to eat it, it's best to call (it may be made ahead of time depending on the pick-up time). The rice balls were a good size and had a good balance of rice and toppings. The rice was cooked with Hokkaido rice and was fluffy. The salmon was tender, sweet, and had just the right amount of salt. The seaweed that accompanied the rice balls was also fragrant and delicious. Salmon Marugame rice balls are a dish where you can enjoy the taste of Hokkaido. We also recommend buying them as souvenirs or in-flight meals at New Chitose Airport.
