Kurashiki, Okayama, Japan｜Shigeichi

Thoroughly enjoyed my visit here. A small walk from the historical part of Kurashiki but worth the detour. The food was extremely tasty and presented beautifully. The sake was delicious and easy going. The service was inviting, friendly, helpful and attentive. We went when it was quiet so the atmosphere was relaxed and peaceful, not sure how busy the restaurant gets in the evening. Very smart and clean place. Would definitely recommend the restaurant and would happily go again if revisiting Kurashiki.

Frugality was ordered by the feudal lord in the Edo period. The diet of the common people was restricted to one type of side dish and soup. However, it is said that ordinary people who wanted to eat something delicious turned the sushi over, and enjoyed their daily meals with ``kaeshi-zushi'', which looked like a simple side dish when the officials came. At this shop, U can experience what it was like 4 the common people of that time, so we recommend stopping by when sightseeing in Kurashiki.

When you enter the building a member of staff comes downstairs to greet you. You have to remove your shoes and are seated. We weren't offered an English menu but got by with translate. They serve the speciality turn over sushi which is something to experience from a food history point of view. The Momo (peach) liquor was great. 100% recommend
