Hiroshima, Japan｜Oyster ship Kanawa

Reservations are booked online with a menu selection to choose from during the booking process. We booked the oyster course menu for two people, but there are a couple non-oyster menu options if needed. From the outside, if you look along the waterline, you can see that a boat hull was converted into a floating boat house! It's just the cutest design. The entrance is between bushes that lead to a glass sliding door which takes you to the reception desk upstairs. We arrived earlier than our reservation, but the table was already set and they were happy to seat us early. Google translate was needed for the food and drink menu. Luckily the menu online is in English so we already knew what would be served. However, several workers spoke English which helped through the rest of the night. The food came out beautifully plated and each dish was absolutely delicious! Starting with the small raw oysters, which are my favorite, to the deep fried oysters, which I thought I'd hate, we're phenomenal. There wasn't a detail they missed and despite people saying Japanese portions are small, by the end of the courses, we were stuffed! So much so that we took a bento box of rice home at the end.

Great experience! Right on the beautiful river next to Peace Park. If you love oysters it is worth a try. These are more like Gulf (Texas) oysters but with more flavor and pretty large. Don't expect the briny more punchy oysters of the East coast in the states. I suggest getting them breaded both fried and panko. But the raw was worth a try too. I also got the sake oyster. Great service, beautiful venue inside, and very convenient next to the ferry that goes to Miyajima Island. I'm glad I got to have Japanese Oysters from Hiroshima!

Excellent dining experience! This spectacular “oyster boat house” restaurant is perfectly located nearby the UNESCO world heritage site “A-bomb Dome” (which is a highly meaningful and educational symbol of praying for world peace). I highly recommend to visit this restaurant just before the sunset! Pick a seat facing the riverside and embrace this harmonic atmosphere in twilight. The menu offers wide selections on both food and drink. Fine dining set courses and a la carte are up to your choice! I had tried their raw oysters and it was delicious! Japanese/ Hiroshima oysters are slightly milky and sweet, which I love so much. Staffs and service are definitely a top notch. Warm and welcoming. I really feel lucky that I found this place while walking along the riverside, and this dining experience made my day in Hiroshima perfect!
