Singapore｜Boon Tong Kee

Boon Tong Kee has always been top of my food list. I was at Compass One's outlet with my family. We ordered one chicken, spinach with assorted eggs, sweet & sour pork, and a seafood tofu clay pot. Due to the shortage of fresh chicken, they used fresh kampong chicken instead. Though it is still quite tasty, I prefer the fresh meat chicken they used previously. The standard of the rest of the dishes is good. We enjoyed our dinner. The total bill is about $105 for 5 people.

Boon Tong Kee, one of Singapore's most established chicken rice brands, is located at Compass 1 in Sengkang. Although it is the most expensive option on our list, with chicken starting at $8 per serving (excluding rice and service charges), the quality of the food warrants the price. The smooth and almost silky grains of rice were nicely covered in a fragrant blend of ginger and chicken fats and offered unparalleled satisfaction when you have it with their unique chilli sauce. The chilli sauce gives a fiery kick but is well balanced by the garlicky notes and mild aroma from dried orange peel. But the pièce de résistance here is the gelatinous, moist chicken that oozes flavour in every bite. The accompanying sauce is also not as sweet as the other two contenders.

It's a chicken rice place, so we ordered chicken rice. The steamed chicken was great and the sauce was really good. The prawn roll and crispy tofu were tasty too. Service was very good, prompt and friendly. This place is walk-in only and didn't take reservations.
