More Comments at Google MapReached close to 9PM for dinner on a Monday night, no crowd with a few empty tables probably because they are closing soon. Ordered the Heng Hwa Lor Mee (Small), Heng Hwa Fried Mee Sua (Small), Fried Tenggri Fish (Small). Total Damage + 2 drinks is below $30. These 3 are my must tries! The small servings are more than enough for 1 pax in my opinion, generous portions. There are 3 slices for the small portion of fish and it comes with a garlic soyasauce which goes really well with the freshly fried fish. Not to forget the Heng Hwa Fried Bee Hoon as well, which we gave it a miss as there are only 2 of us. China lady (server) was very patient in taking our orders and answering our questions, such as my request. Points to Note: 1. I requested for more soup/gravy for the lor mee as i prefer it more soupy therefore the portion looks small. 2. The Heng Hwa Fried Mee Sua was suppose to come with the fried seaweed as well however the lady mentioned that because it was off season and not appetising anymore therefore they did not include it in the garnishing. (Point Worthy of the restaurant to actually go to that effort, instead of just including it onto the dish)
A hidden gem in Tampines! Comparing the food with the actual Putien restaurant, I would rather come here to eat given that it’s cheaper and nicer. The best thing - everything is not very oily at all! My favourite is the seaweed dumping soup. Truly superb!
Qualifier for my ratings, particularly for the atmosphere. While it is a casual restaurant, it was clean and cool with big fans blowing when you eat so it does make you enjoy the food and company better. Foodwise, very decent renditions of patience food, especially the staples such as the putien meefen and lor mee. Comparable to other famous putien restaurants. Where it does not fare as well would be other dishes which I think not be particularly representative of putien food, but I may be wrong... Service was polite and prompt. Definitely worth a visit if you stay in the east and craves for putien food. Price wise, acceptable for the settings. Definite plus point would be the open air gantry parking right outside the restaurant.
