Singapore｜Ban Heng Restaurant

Went for weekday lunch ala carte buffet. It's $42.80+ plus $2+ for tea but there is buy three free one so average out to roughly $36 per pax for choice B, which is the typical buffet menu plus eight extra premium dishes. The menu is quite confusing when it comes to how many times can one dish be ordered or how large is one portion, but staff is very helpful so just ask them if in doubt. We went in a group of 20 and the manager was nice to give us discount as five groups of four although we were split into two tables. Food is pretty decent for Chinese buffet. There are some that are great, such as durian roll, musang king custard bun, chicken wing, veg, herbal prawn, Buddha jump over wall, yam paste etc. Most of the other dishes are OK, mostly too sweet or salty but still nice. Desserts are generally very sweet and not fantastic. Crab is small. Dim sum skin are too thick and doesn't stick well. Fish is overcooked so taste and texture not that great. Didn't manage to try all dishes but assume on average would definitely have a few pleasant dishes.

Awesome dinner. Every 3 paying guest, 1 dines free. I have no idea how they make a profit. Everything was so delicious - really good quality and the taste reminds me of the good ole days of dinners out in the open, under tentages (think 7th month community dinners with the auction going on beside). The selection is quite wide and honestly, everything I ordered was awesome! So so so full now I can probably not eat anything at all tomorrow! Orh nee was not pictured! I finished it before taking a pic :( but it's very pure. There are bits of Yam with the Yam mousse. I don't like the coconut sticky gravy so i usually pour that away. The Yam was very nice. I don't understand why 2-3 reviews said it wasn't nice. It's the best orh née I've tasted in a long time. Seldom get this in such a pure Yam taste. The others elsewhere often add colouring and sugar for the purple colour and the sweeter taste. This one here is 👍 superb.
