Delicious fried kway teow mee with fresh cockles, beansprouts, eggs, and Chinese sausages. The price is super reasonable at $4. Follow the long line that wraps itself along the stall's side wall to queue and order.

The reputation of this place precedes the tasting. This leans to the "wet type" of Char Kway Teow, but not as wet as the Apollo one in Marine Marade Cook Food Centre. Both are superbly good, with my subjective preference for the Apollo one. THIS IS THE PLACE to go for a GREAT Char Kway Teow--a Singaporean Original. Timing to go is before 10am, I'm dead serious. If you approach 11am (approaching lunch) you will be waiting for at least 35 mins, more likely 45-50 mins. The queue is jaw-dropping, there are at least 35 people waiting when I was there at 10.35am! The taste is very SAVOURY, with a strong stench of the pork lard. I think that's why people liked it (not for me). The other star is obviously the blood-dripping cockles, some people asks for extra. IMHO, the beansprouts could be more and should be added at the end, so that it is still crunchy. Compared to the Apollo CKTeow (Marine Parade) I would say that Apollo is wetter, the egg is more "powdery" as opposed to flaky, and there is much more garlic. I think the chilli gives it a different taste and smell (hard to describe). Nevertheless, the Outram CKTeow is definitely Singaporean taste and it is satisfyingly awesome. People are queing up even though there are 40 people before them. And btw, many people orders take-aways, and it can go up to 2-5-7 packets!! So the wait is long. The Old Chef visibly tired, fries non-stop. If you want to sample a great Char Kway Teow, before the Old Chef retires, then you should go before 10am. You will thank me later. This is NOT my first choice, because it would have been the Apollo CKTeow in Marine Parade Cook Food Center, which unfortunately has closed-shop, I guess due to his old age.

Perennial favourite for Char Kway Teow lovers. Any changes over the years? The queue is just as long as I remembered. The cockles are so small these days I’m not sure adding an extra portion does it for me. Not that this option is available everyday. Still has the same wok hei as before. The noodles are still moist and flavourful. Couldn’t find any egg in my plate though. The crispy lard was not in abundance but existed. If I have to queue for so long, I prefer to go to Ghim Moh.
