Nice place, reserve by calling directly for a good seat, not quandoo. [25 Sep 2023] Butter prawn - 9/10, excellent. Huge, pre shelled for convenience. Bit sparing on the chilli padi but really nice. Sambal kangkong - 10/10. Fantastic Egg fried rice - 8.5/10, really good fried rice. Kai lan - 7.5/10 Black pepper crab - 7.5/10. Good, nothing to write home about. Black pepper chicken - 8/10 Oysters - 7.5/10, huge but flavour was only alright

Did some search around the area and found this place with many reviews and high Google rating. I wasn’t so sure but it turned out to be a great experience - very friendly staff, good view of Singapore river, reasonably priced wine, and surprisingly good tasting food. I really enjoyed the fried beef kway teow which has lots of wok hey, the grilled squid and fried Ngoh Hiang (five spice meat roll). A good place to chill and chat over food and drinks.

The food is fantastic and the boss is very hospitable. Catering 14 pax is not easy but the boss managed to get us a nice cosy room (Japanese style) and recommend his great food even though that day is raining. My local and foreign colleagues love it and praise the taste of the food. Highly recommend to try this place. The boss not only own Zhar Char but also Japanese and Chinese Skewer food which is only next door. He can help you do a combination for these styles. Their signature food is Chillis crab and butter prawn but I find that all the food are too good. Must TRY!!!
