Black pepper crab - a little bit sweet but at a great price point. Cereal Shrimp - highlight of the meal. Excellently crispy and very buttery. Totally delicious. Great chili clams also with ample sauce to go with white rice. Well ventilated outdoor covered seating area of around 20 tables or so.

I had a good lunch with my ex colleague. The peking duck skin is one of the best that i have taken, juicy and crispy. The spring roll has a fresh egg flavour and goes well with the sweet sauce. The fried prawns was equally good, nicely done and soft, melts in the mouth. The serving of fish maw soup was generous, liked the sticky taste and served piping hot. The mixed lotus and c tea was good. The restaurant was not crowded and the service was excellent.

(update as of 2nd July 2023) It's just been 2 years and so much has changed... Not sure why the 2 ladies aren't here today, as it's the first time I didn't see either one of them. It was an auntie taking my order who just passed me a buzzer to collect my own food. Not sure when that started, but it feels less "nice" having to collect your own Zi char food. But that said, more importantly is the food right? So I order the pork rib rice and a salted vege todusoup. On first sight both looks ok, but here comes the truth... My pork ribs rice is $6 and only has 4 pieces of meat where 2 are pretty small (the picture shown isn't even the smallest piece on my plate). There's also not quite enough sauce for me to go with the rice. So at that price with 4 pieces of meat (and no egg), that's really expensive. The sauce was good though, and it's quite crispy so freshly fried...but Abit too tough... Tougher than what I rem before. So this dish is a miss for sure.. maybe 5 out of 10 at most. As for the soup .. it's a salted vegetable tofu soup... So as the name implies, the key ingredients shd be salted vege and tofu. However I only got 4 pathetic cubes of tofu and alot of leafy salted vegetables. Not sure if they changed the vege, but this kind tends to be more sourish than saltish and I remember liking it alot more. The good thing is still the mount of ingredients with 2 little prawns, some mushrooms, some slices of meat and a few clams... So its still value for money I guess. But tofu soup... More like an everything else with Abit of tofu soup! My experience with the food and service (or the lack of it) only means now they deserve a 5 out of 10. Because of our 'history', I shall be kind and give them a 3 out of 5 stars. (I will have to come back to try again) (Old review) My favourite Zi char near my current house and I am afraid my new place may not have such a good one ard the area. Let's start with the good points.... 1st their food are mostly above average. The few food I love are their Fish soup, Salted vege soup (which is super value for money), Pork ribs rice which is really crispy and tasty, and one food that I will surely miss is their Crab Beehoon soup! Not that it's the tastiest....infact the likes of Mellben and Uncle Leong are better than this, but the price is alot cheaper for 1 or 2 medium size crabs (used to be $25 for 1 crab and $40 for 2, now it's $35 for 1 and $60 for 2 as of 5th Jan 2023). And it's now on a claypot with the fire keeping it warm throughout. That's something u dun get alot elsewhere. My daughter also loves their Sheng Mian (crispy noodles as she calls it). The portion of the food are quite good as well and definitely good value for most of their food. And the not so good ... The waiting time on some occasions... Esp sat evening, which is super unpredictable and can be up to 1 hr. Worth the wait? Probably not ... So just don't be there on a sat evening shd be fine. Service wise are so so ..sometimes good, as I kinda know the 2 ladies after some time ..but they can get a bit busy and not so friendly towards some others (but not me) at times. But overall, this is not a big deal. Overall, I love this Zi char and will miss them when I moved out of this area. 8.5 out of 10.
