Singapore｜Hong Chang Frog Porridge and BBQ Fish

Definitely one of the top 3 Frog Porridge places in Singapore. Rich, thick umami-filled sauce with a very robust flavour tied together with plain congee that is mouth watering. Paired with the expertly grilled Sambal Stingray and you have a winner. Highly recommended! 👍🏼

One of the more famous frog porridge places in this neighborhood, this restaurant is also known for their other dishes like sambal stingray and sotong. Their dishes are well priced, so no surprise there's a constant queue. But don't worry, the queue moves fairly fast, as this isn't the kind of place you'd like to sit around for long. It's by a noisy street and feels like a stall from the 80s. Their home made chincalok and sambal is to die for... you help yourself from the counter and I made sure I had a lot of it. Parking can be limited, so don't drive if you can help it.

I went to Hong Chang with my family on a Sat for dinner. Parking there can be challenging as minimal parking spaces exist within that small compound. We were there slightly before 6pm and were lucky to get a lot in the private estate next to the restaurant. A tip if you are going on a Sat for dinner. Reach there before 6pm because soon after 6.15pm the crowd will start coming in. The restaurant is right next to the intersection of the main road. There are both inside and outside seating areas. The place is considerably clean. For 4 people, we ordered 2 pots of porridge and 2 pots of frogs in 2 flavors: Gong Bao and Ginger Onions. We ordered Sambal Kang Kong, Butter Sotong and Sambal BBQ Stingray for side dishes. The price is quite reasonable. We paid about $74, including our beverages. The taste and quality of the food is good. The Sambal chili is very nice. You can taste that there are a lot of dried shrimp in it. The frogs are tender and fresh. The Stingray is also very good. It's one of the better ones out there. Overall, we enjoyed the dinner. Good food at a reasonable price. We will surely go back again.
