Singapore｜Da Ji Hainanese Chicken Rice 達記海南雞饭

By the time I reached at opening time 6.30pm, there was already 5 in the queue in front of me and an unknown number of customers who had pre-ordered. For the record, you can pre-order from 4pm but they only start to pack at around 6.30pm. And so I waited for my turn. And waited and waited until 7.45pm! By then the queue behind me was about 13 customers long. Problem seems to be all the pre-orders were bulk buys of at least 10 packets! The rice was fluffy and nice, the roast chicken drumstick moist and tender. The chicken gizzard was quite normal though I did enjoy its crunchiness. A bowl of soup was provided free and the clear soup tasted of chicken and ginger. The fried chicken wings were crispy from the coated batter which had little to no taste but the meat inside was well marinated and full of flavour. My only complaint besides the long wait was the chilli sauce which was not spicy nor tangy enough. But will I go all the way to Toa Payoh again and brave another one hour wait? Maybe not.

Delicious fried chicken rice but be prepared to queue! The stall opens at 630pm but they are normally busy with prepping the food for those who have pre-ordered so the physical queue only actually starts moving at 7pm and they tend to sell out at about 930pm-10pm. They do sell the normal white chicken rice too but mainly the fried chicken rice. For $3.50, it comes with 2 wings and rice. Additional fried chicken wings can be purchased at $1.50 per wing. Wings are always crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside, paired with the fragrant rice and spicy sour chilli, it's amazing!

Usual hawker place. Yes! Chicken rice! Yes! Fried chicken wings! Need I say more? Ok ok wings nicely done. Light fluffy crunchy batter-ed skin. Rice was tasty too. Warning opens at 7pm. Queueing will start earlier. Be prepared to queue. Life hack: you can go early and tell the lady boss your order. Then just pickup later.
